All those places that you hiked in the spring, summer and fall are still there waiting for you to strap on a pair of snowshoes or skiis. There is nothing more invigorating than spending an afternoon out in the untouched white snow of our area. Most newbies fall over, get up and fall over again! What a great laugh, and a great memory. Spend some time out in the woods in the winter and you'll be amazed at how much life there is going on during the 'dead' time. In the sunny afternoons, you can watch for 'snow fleas', which only come out in the winter. These little guys come out by the billions, and dance around on the snow, until the sun gets low, then they jump back onto the trees and hide in the bark until next winter! Click here for the Wikipedia article about snow fleas!

If you are lucky, you may even see a Pileated Woodpecker, these woodpeckers are huge, with an amazing red head, and a beak that chops

through hard maple trees like a hot knife through butter! You will certainly hear these guys at work, while you are out. There are also lots of Chickadees around and Nuthatches (which some of the older locals still call 'ass-ups'). And don't forget to watch for tracks in the snow too! The woods in the winter is a great place to be. The best part for us is that there are no mosquitoes! If you don't have snowshoes, we let our guests borrow ours. We have two pairs of snowshoes and we are happy to let you borrow them. We'll even tell you where to go!
