If you made it to this page, you must be planning to go sledding! We are so lucky in this part of the world, to have such great winter weather. Often, when snow conditions are not great in North Bay or Huntsville or Sudbury or Key West, we have good snow conditions. You can almost always travel from here to Trout Creek (18 Km north on the highway) in the north, and Kearney/Sand Lake (25 Km south) to the south. Traveling west towards Port Loring and Restoule is usually pretty good as well. Trails are well-marked, well-groomed and little travelled. We often have guys go out for a ride mid-week and only see one or two other sleds! Honest! We are a little bit higher in elevation here than the other surrounding areas and that seems to give us good snow. Our trails are almost always passable by Christmas, and they will get better and better until March Break. If you want to come up for the weekend (which we do recommend!) why not give us a call at 1-800-263-7537. Our winter time is a very busy time for us, especially at night, when folks are sleepin'. Some people come up early in the morning, check-in and then go sleddin'. Works out great for them, since they only have to pay for one nights stay, don't have to fight the traffic, and still get two days of sledding done! We are located on trail C105D, which is an east/west TOP connector trail. Have a look at our local neighbourhood trail map, to find out exactly how to get in here. Click HERE for the map of our neighbourhood to get detailed info. We are on the highway about one mile south of South River. Our local snowmobile club usually grooms a trail right to our door along the highway from town and from the Boundary Road to the south of us. Gas and oil are easy |

to find at the Shell station in town, they are open from 8 AM till 10 PM every day. If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to call our toll-free number for exact trail and weather information. If you have stayed with us before, you know that we will ask you where you went today and what the trails were like. We ask everyone we see, and pass along the information to everyone else! Hey, things are good for the 2009/10 season. We have had some snow, a little rain to knock it down and then some more snow and cold weather ....... What could be better! Give us a call to see how we can help with your trip. |

RAP Tour A lot of people ask us about this tour. The RAP is truly a great snowmobile tour, encompassing some 600 Km of TOP trail around the outside of Algonquin Park. Most snowmobilers will do the trip in 4 days and three nights, however, it can easily take longer if you break down or get lost or follow rough trails or run out of snow. We have seen all of these scenarios here in our 21 winters. In order to avoid getting lost, you should have all your maps to-gether. You will need four maps to do the RAP tour. Starting at the bottom of Algonquin Park, you will need the Muskoka Snowmobile Region map, available from the MSR at 1-800-328-7242. This map covers from Kearney to Haliburton. The second map you will need is from the Haliburton County Snowmobile Association at 705-457-4263. The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association prints a map which covers |

from Barry's Bay to Mattawa at the top of the park. The OVTA map is available at 1-800-757-6580. The OVTA also has a great map of the RAP tour on their website. Click HERE to get to the map. Finally, the Near North Snowmobile region covers trails from Mattawa to Kearney and is available from the good folks at the NNTA, 1-800-387-0516. There is a link to their trail map......http://nnta.ca/map/ As of January 2010, they still had last years map up, and there have been some improvemnets this year....This is our area, right in the middle of sleddin' heaven! A good map for the Muskoka area is from the Muskoka Snowmobile Region web site. It's in PDF format, and can be found HERE. Checking the weather reports in the week prior to your trip is very important. Be sure to call some of your destination hotels for up to date trail info. This will help you to stay in the snow for your whole trip. The area around Pembroke as well as the area around North Bay can be problems since they both can have wonky snow conditions at any time, especially in July. We always recommend staying at the small independent motels and lodges, because the owners of these places are usually the ones answering the phones and they have a better knowledge than the clerks of the big chain places.( but that is my own personal bias!). We also recommend that you plan your RAP tour for mid-week, since trails are at their best when traffic is at it's least. There is nothing worse than travel on 500 Km of nice trails only to finish you trip on a Sunday afternoon! For more information you can call the folks at Spectacle Lake Lodge in Barry's Bay. They have been involved in the RAP since the glaciers melted! The staff there are very knowledgeable about the trails and snow conditions in the Barry's Bay area. In the area to the north of Algonquin, give Doug Antler a call at Antlers Kingfisher Lodge in Deux Riviere, he has an intimate knowledge of the area from Mattawa to Pembroke. RAN Tour The RAN (Ride Around Nipissing)is similar to the RAP except that it is completely different. The RAN is a shorter |
||
ride, only 2 or 3 days, but it has the option of being longer or shorter depending on the route you choose. The whole route is covered by the Near North map. Snow is generally good for the RAN tour with the exception of the area around North Bay. There are a couple of staked trails across Lake Nipissing which can save time for sledders in a hurry. The RAN tour can be accomplished using an all land route with the exception of the really cool bridge across the French River at Hwy. 69. |
