Let us just say that we love the Forgotten Trails! There are trails for cycling, trails for hiking, trails for driving on, and trails for boating on! We keep supporting The Forgotten Trails because they are such an important resource for visitors and residents of the area alike. There are information kiosks located at several locations in the South River area. On Eagle Lake Road (the road that leads to Eagle Lake) there is a kiosk that has maps and such about the trails on the West side of Highway 11.

At the Visitor Information Centre on the Highway, there is a kiosk that gives information about the trails on the East side of the highway. Martha and Tim are especially fond of the Tower Trail, which goes up a tall hill where there used to be a fire tower. The trail is a little steep going up, but the view from the top is spectacular!! We also like the Tom Thompson river trail, which follows the South River from inside Algonquin Park to the village of South River. This was a route used by the painter Tom Thompson in the early 20th century. When Tom was asked why he came into South River, when there were towns closer to the park, he responded that they were not accesible by canoe!

There is available a new and improved forgotten Trails brochure.

We have them available at our front desk.
