So, you saw the beads that Martha makes. and you really want to make your own!!! To start with we recommend that you have a look at some web sites that offer information to lampworkers. One of the best is by Corina Tattinger's. She wrote a book that has become the reference work for information about lampworking, etc. Corina's site is at Corina Beads. This link will take you to Corina's archive of her E-Bay beads which sell for outrageous prices, but it will give you an idea what is out there. Corina has had some serious health issues, however, she remains dedicated to improving the skills of ordinary lampworkers everywhere. If you Google, lampworking you will get hundreds of other sites to look at. As you will see, there are millions of different possibilities when working with glass. If you wish to purchase your own set-up, give the good folks at Nortel Manufacturing a call, they are located in Toronto, ON however, they also have an office in Buffalo, NY. Talk to Jean at (416) 438-3325. Nortel makes the Minor Bench Burner, which is the torch used by Martha. They also make the Major Bench Burner, which is for making really big stuff.....like pipes.....if you know what we mean. If you wish to get the whole set-up..... count on spending close to $2000 Cdn. depending on how much glass you want to start with. If you wish to test the waters a little more slowly..... call up the folks at Bead F/X in Toronto (Scarborough). These folks have a whole bunch of torches set-up with lessons, comraderie, and support. You can rent torch time, take lessons and get the hang of things at a slower pace.
